Languages

My name is Ivy Huang. I came to Canada from mainland China in 2016 and have been living in Langley for more than 7 years. I initially came to pursue my master's degree in counselling psychology, and eventually developed my own family, community, and career in BC. During my spare time, I am an avid art and music lover, and I enjoy reading, writing, painting, baking, crafting, hiking, and boardgames. I also have special love for camping, kayaking, and swimming in summertime.

Scope of Practice
Education & Qualification
I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors, and a Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC) with the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association. I hold a Master’s Degree in counselling psychology from Trinity Western University. I have also been trained in multiple trauma-informed therapeutic modalities, such as Internal Family Systems (IFS), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT; also known as a specific type of CBT-Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for PTSD), Polyvagal Therapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), and Observed & Experiential Integration (OEI). In order to keep my knowledge and skills up-to-date, I continue to pursue ongoing education and training, including Existential Analysis (EA), Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT).
I work together with children, youth, post-secondary students, and adults of all ages, specializing in trauma (PTSD, single incident trauma, relational/complex trauma in childhood and adulthood, including but not limited to physical/emotional abuse, sexual harassment/assault/abuse, neglect, abandonment issue, infidelity, etc.), anxiety, depression, grief/loss, life transitions, burnout/self-care, and internal conflicts. As a person who has encountered both Western and Asian culture, I am also passionate about providing service to people from different cultures.
With fundamental faith in clients’ desire and potential for growth and change, I strive to tailor my approach to clients’ different needs. In counselling sessions, my clients have full control of the pace and plan we are launching towards while we work as a team. As one part of the team, I incorporate traditional talk therapy (such as CPT/Cognitive Processing Therapy - also known as a specific type of CBT/Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for PTSD) with holistic therapy approaches (such as EMDR/Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, IFS/Internal Family Systems, and mindfulness), with adjustment based on clients' feedback and their reactions to various interventions.
I provide counselling in both English and Chinese (Mandarin).
